2009 SENE ARTISTS

In 2009 SENE was honored to have the following artists exhibit their work at the new Gallery DEMI in Providence.

Lana Deym Campbell

Lana Deym Campbell is an oil painter known for her passionate activism. She has forged her own vision from the fires of experience and exposures to many cultures and philosophies. "I look for links, clues and connections between the visible and the invisible worlds and seek to find the inspiring, poetic or philosophical thought that may be suggested by an aspect of a landscape, a person, wildlife or cityscape."

Cat Hainfeld

I grew up on eastern Long Island, amidst a landscape of field, forest, marsh and water. My father was a research scientist, and he instilled in me an insatiable curiosity about the world, and my grandmother, a painter and poet, taught me to recognize my inner experience, and the value in reflecting it back through art. From the earliest age, my unique response to the world has reached wide to grasp both science and art: my tireless investigation drives always toward creative synthesis and expression. In my work, I hunt for the spark of life, and offer it as a connecting point; I seek to bridge the gap between the self and other, to pierce the veil. I studied non-human minds to receive a Bachelor of Science degree from Brown University; as an early web designer, the connective potential of virtual worlds led me to study 3D animation at the Savannah College of Art and Design. I re-embraced storytelling, and developed a sculptural series of characters and interwoven fiction. In 2007, I sought connection with the larger human story, traveling the country in a veggie-oilburning bus as documentarian, photographer, and head mechanic. I am still seeking.

Linda Hawkins

I am a mother, a wife, a student, and an artist. As a parent, I know the importance of capturing life's special moments. As an artist, my goal is to capture the memories that you never want to forget. The portraits I create are easily recognized by their soulful, candid essence that is contemporary yet timeless. They are not posed with forced smiles, but happy and relaxed, natural portraits that celebrate the beauty of each and every person I photograph. The unique, timeless portraits that I create for you will tug at your heart and warm your soul. As a student, I am currently studying photography at Rhode Island School of Design in Providence Rhode Island. I have been a photographer for many years, moving over into the digital format a few years ago. I started my photography journey in the dark room in high school many years ago. I will always continue learning and growing so that I can continue to bring my clients work that is fresh and new. I am proud to be a member of the Photography Professionals of America (PPA) and to have had my work recently featured on the NBC Today Show.

Frederick Sebastian

I am currently a freelance abstract artist. I’m working on completing a collection of abstract paintings entitled “Random Abstracts – the Little Dreams Collection”. The works I’ve listed ‘illuminate the human condition and the vibrant range of emotions…’ because all are meant to evoke some type of emotion from the observer.

Jenny Lane Smith, RISD BFA ‘89

Currently a certified Graphic Communications and Photography teacher RI public schools. I have been teaching for more than 10 years. I continue to follow my own passion for photography with an eye for the abstract or unusual and often industrial subjects. Enjoy traveling to Europe and Mexico as often as I can, although most of my photography is of Rhode Island landscapes. My work is centered around the experience of seeing what is always there but often passed by as uninteresting. I have an intrigue for industrial and city views. I use a Minolta Digital SLR camera which has the capability of producing images that can be very large and sharp. High resolution digital prints are on acid free museum quality archival paper. Both the camera and the printing process allow me to more fully capture the feeling and essence of how I experience the city.
